1. Jacava London in Midnight’s Secrets
Blue nails were everywhere on the autumn/winter 2015 runways. This metallic royal blue is made with Jacava’s ‘9-free formula’, so no nail-damaging nasties here. The unusually shaped lid doesn’t just look beautiful, but also makes applying the polish much easier than a regular brush. We recommend applying two coats.
2. Models Own in Diamond Luxe Emerald Green
Metallic jewel tones are always a popular choice for the colder months and will look suitably festive as Christmas approaches. Our pick is this rich, super-sparkly emerald green from Models Own’s Diamond Luxe collection, which contains ‘ultra-fine diamond dust’ for extra sparkle. Who needs rings when you can wear jewels on your nails instead.
3. OPI Nail Lacquer in It’s a Piazza Cake
The OPI Autumn/Winter 2015 collection is inspired by the baroque style of Venice, with names like My Gondola or Yours? and Be There in a Prosecco to match. We love It’s a Piazza Cake, an autumnal burnished orange that looks particularly good on darker skin tones.
4. Soigné in Feuillage
This elegant rose twist on classic greige is our favourite from the luxury French brand’s autumn/winter collection this year. Bright colours aren’t for everyone and this toned-down shade goes with everything. All of Soigné’s polishes come with flat-headed brushes that make them incredibly easy to apply.
Available from 22 September 2015
5. Essie in Leggy Legend
Leggy Legend, which the Essie autumn collection is named after, is a warm, shimmering rose-tinted bronze shade. A one-coat wonder, you don’t need to use much of this polish for a stunning finish, making it purse-friendly, too.
6. Nails in Rainy Day
Dark skies and rainy days might be our least favourite part of autumn, but this moody grey nail shade will certainly please. It suits all skin tones and is versatile enough to work for any outfit or occasion.
7. Butter London Nail Lacquer in Broody
This wonderfully rich raspberry nail polish is bright but murkier than summer’s hot pink; perfect for that transitional time when you’re dressed for cooler weather but not quite ready to let go of the last lingering days of summer. The gel-like effect gives glossy finish, much shinier than most other brands we tested.
8. Barry M Matte Nail Paint in Espresso
Barry M never fails to deliver great results for low prices. Black nail polish goes with everything and, despite popular belief, actually looks great on all skin tones. Our tester was initially a little dubious about the matte finish but was pleasantly surprised by the luxe effect.
9. Nailberry in Noir Berry
If you’re looking to treat your nails with something really luxurious, we recommend Nailberry’s Le Noir Edit collection, which is a selection of deep, rich colours. We particularly like Noir Berry – an opulent, vampy shade that’s as dark a red can go without being black and a colour that will see you through Christmas and well into the new year.
10. MAC Nail Lacquer in Rain of Flowers
A deep violet shade that shimmers with flecks of glitter, there’s something night sky-like about this polish. For an even and opaque finish, we recommend applying just one generous coat as it can start to look a little streaky with a second coat.
